Xiaomi Manu Kumar Jain on Redmi success, bringing more Mi phones to India

Xiaomi&#39 s Manu Kumar Jain on Redmi success, bringing more Mi phones to India : Xiaomi Manu Kumar Jain on Redmi success, bringing more Mi phones to India
Written by Shruti Dhapola | New Delhi | Manu Kumar Jain says they will launch more Mi phones in India in the future, along with products from Mi home ecosystems. Xiaomi is now the second largest smartphone provider in India. Its Redmi Note 4 became the best-selling smartphone in terms of volume in the first quarter of 2017, surpassing the popular Samsung series J, which is the first. Although we have seen launching three variants of Redmi in India so far, it is not yet known when India-branded phones (which tend to have a higher price) will be launched in India. spoke with Xiaomi India Managing Director and Vice President Manu Kumar Jain on what the strategy will be for India, what kind of devices to expect, and whether the company will bring more products from the My ecosystem to the market. Here is an edited excerpt of the interaction. The Redmi brand of Xiaomi in India, on how it has become the definition for the company Redmi is our most popular series of smart phones. I am referring to the Redmi and Redmi Note series. This is a more affordable series, usually priced at around Rs 10,000 and competes with phones that are double the price. When we started, 50 percent of the market was less than Rs 6,000. Around 30-35 percent were playing in the price range of Rs 6,000- Rs 15,000. The rest was over 15,000 rupees. There was a reason we never signed up at Rs 6,000, because we felt we could provide a phone that had a great consumer experience. We do not believe that a Rs 3,000 phone from us would meet our quality standards. I do not think I would be willing to use that phone as my main device. That's why we never thought of launching any product in that price segment. Basically, we decided to attack the mid-price segment when we started with our Redmi series. I think over a period of time, more and more people are migrating from the low price range of Rs 6K to the low Rs 12K price range type. Redmi Note 4 has been the best-selling phone, number one in Q1 in India. But remember, India is different from other countries. Most people are still first time buyers, updating the phone function to smart phones. People who buy smartphones for the first time are still buying at Rs 6,000, but anyone who has bought a smartphone before, are upgrading
